Join us at the Playground Shelter in the middle of Landen-Deerfield Park for a leisurely stroll to observe and document local bird species on the Winter Solstice. Our tallies will be included in the 125th annual National Audubon Society's "Christmas Bird Count," and will contribute to long-term bird population monitoring efforts. This is North America's longest-running community science project!
Our walk will cover paved paths around the pond and parking lot tree line as well as on the natural surface multi-use trails through the woods and along the creek at the back of the park. Please dress for the weather and wear appropriate footwear. We may encounter snow and/or mud. Bring your binoculars and field guides if you have them.
Whether you’re a seasoned birder or just starting out, we welcome everyone! The event should last around 1 hour, depending on how many birds we see and hear. Open to all ages. Children 15 and younger should be accompanied by a guardian.
